St. Tammany Parish President Issues Proclamation Honoring Direct Support Professionals

In honor of Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Week (Sept. 13-19), St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister showed her support by presenting Volunteers of America with a proclamation on Tuesday, September 8th honoring the work of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). DSPs – also referred to as caregivers, personal assistants and direct care or homecare aides – provide daily support services for many Americans.

Volunteers of America is a leader in helping individuals live independent, meaningful lives, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and also the elderly. Through Volunteers of America’s Community Residential Living Services and Supported Independent Living Services, DSPs provide personalized support to individuals living in community homes and private homes, ensuring that each person maximizes his or her independence and participates fully in community and family life.
