The Home Depot Foundation Pledges a Quarter Billion Dollars to Veteran-Related Causes by 2020

The Home Depot Foundation has long demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting U.S. military veterans, especially those facing housing instability or unsafe living conditions. Through both financial investments and hands‑on volunteer engagement, the Foundation works to ensure that veterans across the country have access to safe, stable, and dignified housing. As part of this mission, they pledged an extraordinary quarter billion dollars to veteran‑related causes by 2020—an ambitious commitment that reflects the company’s dedication to those who have served.

Since 2011, the Foundation has invested more than $160 million specifically to help veterans secure a safe place to call home. These funds support nonprofit organizations nationwide, enabling them to repair, renovate, and build housing for veterans in need. A key component of this effort is Team Depot, the company’s associate‑led volunteer program. Thousands of Home Depot associates donate their time and skills each year, completing essential repairs, accessibility modifications, and neighborhood revitalization projects that directly benefit veterans with critical housing needs. Since its establishment in 2002, it has granted more than $380 million to nonprofits working to improve homes and strengthen communities.

Volunteers of America’s Work with The Home Depot Foundation

Volunteers of America is proud to be one of The Home Depot Foundation’s long‑standing partners. Since the partnership began in 2011, the Foundation has contributed nearly $11.3 million to Volunteers of America programs focused on improving housing for homeless veterans and their families. Each project also provides meaningful opportunities for Team Depot volunteers to participate, bringing energy, expertise, and compassion to every renovation effort.

Together, we have refurbished or built housing for more than 3,000 homeless veterans and many of their family members—creating safer, more stable environments where veterans can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
