Not Every American Lives the American Dream

More than 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose. Volunteers of America is helping to combat the opioid epidemic happening on the north shore with our Opioid Mobile Response Team. Our team provides education and outreach, overdose support and care for those battling opioid use disorder as well as after treatment care and recovery services.

The American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) honored Marvette Harris, a Direct Support Professional at Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana, as the recipient of the 2019 National Direct Support Professional of the Year award. Harris joins more than four dozen other recipients of ANCOR’s 2019 Direct Support Professional of the Year awards, chosen from a field of nearly 350 outstanding nominees.
