Helping Rebuild Lives For Homeless Heroes
Our transitional housing program helps homeless male veterans access safe housing, counseling, care coordination, and supportive services as they work toward permanent housing and greater stability.
Helping Homeless Veterans Build a Stable Future
VOA Southeast Louisiana provides transitional housing and supportive services for homeless male veterans in the Greater New Orleans area. Our 24-month program provides more than a place to stay-it offers individualized case management, counseling, employment assistance, life-skills training, treatment referrals, and other services designed to help veterans achieve stability and transition to permanent housing.
Transitional Housing for Veterans
Our Veterans Services program provides transitional housing and rehabilitation services for eligible homeless male veterans referred by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Federal funding supports housing at two facilities in the Greater New Orleans area, providing veterans with a safe and structured environment while they work toward their goals.
Each veteran works with our professional staff to develop an individualized plan based on their needs and goals. Services may include:
- Transitional housing and housing assistance
- Individualized case management
- Life-skills training
- Counseling and supportive services
- Substance use treatment referrals
- Mental health service referrals
- Employment training and job placement assistance
- Referrals to healthcare and community resources
- Permanent housing placement
- Supportive services for veterans and their families
Building Stability and Independence
Our goal is to help veterans overcome barriers to stable housing, employment, health, and self-sufficiency. Once residents are stabilized and have income, they contribute a portion of their income toward rent and save a percentage of their income to establish a financial reserve for expenses after completing the program.
Throughout the 24-month program, veterans receive ongoing support as they prepare to transition from transitional housing to permeant housing and greater independence.
A Path Toward Permanent Housing
Veteran transitional housing can provide an important bridge between homelessness and permanent housing. Through housing, case management, treatment referrals, employment support, and connections to community resources, VOA Southeast Louisiana helps veterans develop the skills and stability needed for a successful transition.
