A VOA Southeast Louisiana Program
VOA Southeast Louisiana is a faith-based nonprofit that has served communities across 16 parishes for 130 years. Craftsman is one way we carry out that mission: by helping older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and families stay safe and independent in their own homes.
Why This Work Matters
For many people, the home itself becomes the biggest barrier to independence. A high bathtub wall, a narrow doorway, or a few entry steps can make daily life dangerous. Fall are leading cause of injury among older adults, and many of them happen at home. Simple, well-built modifications can prevent injuries and let people age in place with dignity instead of moving to a care facility before they need to.
What We Do
Craftsman specializes in accessibility and safety modifications including:
- Bathroom safety: curb less walk-in showers, grab bars, comfort-height toilets, and slip-resistant flooring.
- Mobility access: wider doorways, ramps, and safer entryways for wheelchairs and walkers.
- Room and whole-home modifications: layouts designed around each person’s health, mobility, and daily routines.

Payne Diez
Superintendent
Born and raised in Metairie, Payne discovered his love for home improvement at an early age while attending and working at Archbishop Rummel High School. In 2004, Payne left his executive position with a cargo company, which required him to frequently travel across the country, so he could stay home and care for his ailing father. Since bringing his entrepreneurship and executive experience to Craftsman Home Improvement and Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana, Payne has helped countless people turn their homes into something to be proud of. He has lived in Mandeville with his wife, Cynthia, for 25 years. When he’s not busy making people’s dreams come true, he enjoys spoiling his three beautiful granddaughters.

Craftsman Home Improvement was formed from Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana’s Repairs on Wheels Program. While Craftsman Home Improvement offers high-quality, paid services to the public, Repairs on Wheels can help with minor repairs and ADA home modifications if you meet certain income, health, age, or legal requirements.
